Interns
The office is dedicated to providing substantive experience to graduating law school and under graduate students.
- Law school students intern under the supervision of senior attorneys, and assist with all aspects of client representation. A resume should be submitted when applying for an internship, along with any law school requirements. Federal Work Study information can be obtained through the institution’s financial aid office.
- Law school students with CLI status may be employed by the Office of the Public Defender, 19th Judicial Circuit, prior to taking the Florida Bar Exam.
- Students graduating in Paralegal and Legal Secretarial Studies may put course work into practice by interning with an attorney.
Volunteers
Volunteer for the “Best Place in Town to Work”.
(Treasure Coast Job Coalition Award, 2002)
- Secretarial volunteers assist secretaries organizing case files for attorney review as well as preparation for trial.
- High School students looking to fulfill volunteer hours for the Bright Futures Scholarship can benefit from this opportunity to be of assistance and to learn about the justice system.
- Offender Re-Entry Program volunteers help prepare clients for re-entry into their community, upon release from jail. Volunteers generally help clients with a myriad of needs: presenting “life skills” topics to clients in a controlled jail setting; serving as a mentor once a client has been released from jail; assisting with locating employers for a client; and finding housing or needed transportation.
